Chandigarh approves the “Draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2022” to convert the city into a ‘Model Electric Vehicle City’ within the time period of 5 years. The department also is now asking for suggestions and feedback for thirty days open for stakeholders and the general public of the city.
Chandigarh will get the cycling track infrastructure for promoting the usage of Electric Bicycles as a replacement of 2/4W, especially for short trips. The city will establish a wide network of charging points by enabling the availability of power supply and related processes.
For setting up EVs, using the New & Renewable Energy sources for charging of EVs to positively impact the indirect emissions. Chandigarh will enable fleet operators like E-commerce companies, last-mile delivery/logistics players, and mobility aggregators to transition to zero-emission vehicles.
A communication plan will be made to focus on driving awareness regarding the key elements of this policy and the benefits of adopting EVs. Chandigarh will incentivize the adoption of EVs in electric two-wheelers, electric four-wheelers, electric good carriers, electric autos, electric bicycles, electric four-wheelers, and electric carts.
Chandigarh will set up 100 public electric vehicle charging stations in the first 2 years. The registration fee has been waived off for EVs and an exemption from road tax has been provided till 2024. For the next 5 years, EV parking chargers at parking lots that are run by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will be waived off entirely.
Chandigarh will convert its commercial vehicles by March 2024 into an EV fleet including courier services, cab services, and food delivery companies. All above incentives are applicable only to those Electric Vehicles (EV) which are Purchased and registered in Chandigarh.
