Delhi Installs First Private EV Charging Point

Under the AAP government’s single-window facility, Delhi sees the first private EV charging point installed in the BSES discom BRPL area. The first one was installed at DDA flats and the second one at East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar. The transport department has been empanelled around 12 vendors for installing charging points.

“Consumers of BSES discoms BRPL and BYPL can get a private EV charging point installed through an online single-window portal (Switch Delhi) at their homes, group housing societies, multi-storey apartment complexes, RWA offices, commercial shops, etc., through the empanelled vendors,” he said.

The single-window facility will facilitate the expansion of EV charging infrastructure at semi-private and private places like group housing societies, malls, hospitals, theatres, and apartments in Delhi. The government is also providing subsidies for setting up the first 30,000 EV charging points of Rs. 6,000.

Users can purchase EV chargers either through subscription or capex model from the empanelled vendors. In capex model, the user makes the entire payment to the empanelled vendor and in the subscription model, the user has to pay monthly installments to the vendor for 3 years, and then the charger can be transferred to him.

Recently, the government also launched a guidebook to install EV charging stations at the parking spaces and malls.
