Delhi Starts Registration Process Of Centres For Retrofitting Of Vehicles

Delhi’s transport department starts the process of registration for centres for retrofitting old petrol and diesel vehicles with electric kits for converting them into electric vehicles.

10 electric kit manufacturers have enrolled for converting old petrol and diesel vehicles which cannot ply on the roads of the city. The manufacturers will have to install the electric kits on the vehicles as per the guidelines of the government.

The supplier or the manufacturers should provide extensive training to the technicians for installing. The installer needs to maintain the record of installation of electric kits in the vehicles and provide the same information to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, when asked.

The installer also needs to check the vehicle once in a year for fitness and check the parameters audited. Installer needs to have written consent of the vehicle owner for fitness assessment.

All the retrofitters empanelled by the transport ministry gets approval from International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), a leading research and development agency.

There are approximately 1.5 lakh diesel vehicles in Delhi which has completed 10 years of time period and around 28 lakh petrol vehicles which are older than 15 years.

The Delhi government will deregister all the petrol vehicles which has completed 15 years and diesel vehicles which has completed 10 years in compliance with the NGT order.
