According to Nitin Gadkari Union Road Transport Minister, 1 in every 5 electric four-wheelers is being used by the government entities in India. As of February 4, the government entities the electric vehicles in use are 5,384 in number.

A total of 26,335 electric four-wheelers were registered in India. Karnataka was leading in this segment with 7,212 electric vehicles, followed by Ladakh with 5,484 EVs. Delhi saw the registration of 3,051 electric four-wheelers.

The total eco-friendly vehicle registered in the country was 4.8 lakh in 2021. In India, 9.7 lakh electric vehicles have been registered. UP has so far registered 2.8 lakh EVs and Delhi registered 1.3 lakh EVs.

Recently, the government also announced EV MARKETZ, the first virtual electric mobility marketplace. Electric rickshaws have around 67% share in the total EVs whereas electric two-wheelers have a 29% share.

“This trend will continue as people find EVs a better option due to huge savings in fuel. The number of vehicles running on ethanol and methanol will also see a quantum jump in the next few years as the government is putting more focus on alternative fuels,” said an official.

States like Delhi and Jharkhand have launched attractive incentives to boost EVs. Recently, Chandigarh also launched its ‘Draft EV Policy 2022’.
