Honda Launches India’s First Mainstream Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle – New City e:HEV

Honda Cars India Limited is a top manufacturer of premium cars and launched the much-anticipated New City e:HEV in India. The New City e.HEV, priced at INR 19 49900 (Ex-showroom Delhi), is the first mainstream car to be equipped with Strong Hybrid Electric technology. The City e-HEV is equipped with Honda’s exclusive Self-charging and highly efficient Two Motor Electric Hybrid system. It’s connected to a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle DOHC iVTEC petrol engine. This system aims to deliver the best electric-hybrid performance in the world, with an exhilarating drive and a remarkable fuel efficiency of 26.5 km/l. Honda’s Advanced Intelligent Safety Technology, “Honda Sensing”, has been introduced in India for the first time with the City e:HEV. Honda has reiterated its global vision to achieve carbon neutrality and zero collision fatalities before 2050.

M. Takuya Taksumura, President & Chief Executive Officer, Honda Cars India Ltd., commented on the India launch for the New City e:HEV. He said that “Today we embark on our electrification voyage in India with New City e:HEV. This reaffirms our commitment to bringing only the best and most relevant technologies to the country. The strong hybrid technology was accepted by mainstream segments, as evidenced by the overwhelming response to the unveiling of the model. The New City e:HEV is a segment leader, following the tradition of Honda City – which sets industry benchmarks with every introduction.

He added that the Self-Charging Hybrid Electric Model, which includes the First-in-Segment Advanced Intelligent Suite of Safety technologies Honda Sensing, is the best solution on the market. This will allow customers to make a smooth transition to an electrified future. The self-charging, two-motor hybrid system is a breakthrough that delivers exceptional performance and excellent fuel economy at 26.5 km/l. It also emits very low emissions. In line with the Make in India vision, we are making the City e:HEV in India.

Advanced Intelligent Safety Technology Honda SENSING uses a high-performance front camera that has a wide-angle and far-reaching detection system. It scans the road ahead and alerts the driver to reduce the risk of accidents. In some cases, it can even intervene to prevent or reduce the severity of a crash. Honda SENSING’s signature features include Collision Mitigation Breking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (RDM), Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist System LKAS (LKAS) and Auto High-Beam.

The New City e-HEV is equipped with 37 Honda Connect features. Honda Connect is now compatible with smartwatch devices, in addition to the existing integration with Alexa/OK Google. This will enhance the Connected Car experience. For existing and new customers, the smartwatch integration is available for fifth-generation Honda City Petrol or Diesel models.

The New City e-HEV is available in one flagship-grade ZX in five amazing colors: Radiant Red Metallic (Plain White Pearl), Meteoroid Gray Metallic (Meteoroid Grey Metallic), Golden Brown Metallic and Lunar Silver metallic.

Another first for HCIL is the Advanced Hybrid Electric Vehicle New City e:HEV, which will be manufactured in India at its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Tapukara (Rajasthan). After the launch, the company will start delivering the model to its dealers across the country.

As a standard benefit, the New City e-HEV will provide complete peace of mind. It comes with a 3-year Unlimited Kilometers warranty. Customers can choose to have an Extended Warranty of up to 5 years or an Anytime Warranty of up to 10 years, starting from the date that their car was purchased. Lithium-ion Battery warranties are available for 8 years or 1 60 000 km (whichever comes first).

The City e:HEV exterior features a New Honda Solid Wing Face, a Blue H-mark logo in the front and rear, e:HEV emblem at the rear, a Claw-type Fog Light Gannish, and New Black Painted Diamond cut Alloy Wheels. The unique City e.HEV full-LED headlamps feature a 9-Array Inline Shell, integrated LED DRL, L ShapedLED Turn Signal, and Z Shaped 3D wraparound LED Tail lamp. This enhances the city’s premium look.

The car’s interior features a luxurious, spacious and premium cabin in New Luxurious Two Tone Ivory & Black Interior Color Theme. The City e:HEV has adopted an easy-to-use Electric Parking Brake (EPB), which engages the parking brake with one switch. This eliminates the need to use a brake lever. It also allows the center console to be used more efficiently for small items, such as a smartphone, small tablet, or pocket tissue. The 17.7 cm high definition Full Colour TFT meter displays multiple information including e:HEV powerflow meters, Honda Sensing support, and other alerts and warnings. The interior features Contemporary Seats with Premium leather Upholstery, 20.3 cm Advanced Touchscreen Audio with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, One-Touch Electric Sunroof, LED Interior Room Lamps, and soothing Ambient Lighting.

Two-Motor’s e-CVT hybrid system links to a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle DOHC iVTEC petrol engine, Intelligent Power Unit, (IPU), with an advanced Lithium-ion Battery and an Engine linked direct coupling Clutch for the New City e:HEV. The e-HEV system has three driving modes: EV Drive Mode (Hybrid Drive Mode), Engine Drive Mode and Engine Drive Mode. Regeneration Mode is available when the vehicle is decelerating. The clever Power Control Unit makes sure that all components of the system work together to produce an energetic response. It seamlessly switches between three modes depending on driving conditions.

The system boasts a maximum power output of 126 PS and an outstanding fuel economy of 26.5 km/l. It also has a motor torque of 253 Nm @ between 0 and 3000 rpm. The New City e-HEV has an advanced Electric Servo Brake System with all four-wheel disc brakes. This system contributes to fuel efficiency and provides a smooth feel. The Electric Servo Brake and Electric Regenerative Braking combine with Hydraulic Braking to stop the vehicle quickly while charging the Lithium-Ion battery pack.

Honda City e-HEV is fully equipped with advanced safety technology and features such as ACE body structure, Ultra-High Tensile Strength steel frame with Super High Formability 980MPa grade steel, AVAS(Acoustic Vehicle Alarming System at Low-Speed EV Mode), 6 airbags, Honda Lane Watch, Honda Lane-Watch.

The New City e-HEV is equipped with 37 Honda Connect features. Honda Connect is now compatible with smartwatches devices, in addition to the existing integration with Alexa/OK Google.
