Karnataka government has signed an agreement with Ather Energy to install 1,000 fast charging points in the state. Ather Energy will also provide free charging services for its electric vehicles.
The agreement was signed by the Managing Director, CEO, and co-founder of Ather Energy, Tarun Mehta, and BESCOM Managing Director Rajendra Cholan. ESCOM will give all the technical support required and will be the primary contact of the government.
“An MoU was signed between Ather Energy and Electric Supply Companies (ESCOMs) of the state in the presence of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai for setting up 1,000 fast-charging stations across the state. The ESCOMs would be the nodal agency to provide all technical support and government agencies would coordinate with the ESCOMs to share their available spaces for the charging stations,” stated a statement issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO).
Karnataka is working on increasing its green mobility footprints by attracting investors to set up their stores in the state and making Karnataka a hub for manufacturing alternate fuel vehicles and batteries for EVs.
Recently during the budget session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that “Considering the constraint space in urban areas for setting up (electric vehicles) charging stations, a battery swapping policy will be brought out and interoperability standards will be formulated.”
