Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray launches a special cell titled ‘Mumbai EV Cell’ with WRI India under BMC to boost electric vehicle adoption and transition in Mumbai.
“With experts working towards sustainable mobility, this cell will assist in creating a network of charging stations, supporting battery development and market penetration,” said Aditya Thackeray.
Maharashtra saw a hike of 157% in the registration of EVs after the launch of the EV policy of the state in July 2021. Climate change is an emergency and this is just the beginning of the long road ahead.
Thackeray said, “We are swiftly working towards electrifying the BEST fleet. Currently, 386 BEST buses are electric and will soon touch 50 percent by 2023 and 100 percent before 2027.”
“Grateful to BMC, BEST buses, and most importantly, Mumbaikars, who are crucial stakeholders in our efforts towards sustainable development,” added Thackeray.
Recently, the state has embarked on a huge drive to boost the number of electric vehicles (EV) charging stations in Mumbai. The government has set a goal to set up 1,500 EV charging stations in the next few years, with the first batch of 134 expected to unfurl in the city soon.
