Maharashtra government is planning to offer incentives to delivery and mobility companies for electrification of their vehicle fleets before 2025. The government is working on bringing new policies to promote a clean environment.
Maharashtra set a target in 2021 to electrify 25% of vehicle fleets of delivery companies by 2025. But now the government wants to achieve this target before 2025. Government plans to offer higher incentives for purchasing in bulk.
“We are trying to be on the earlier side of 2025 and see if companies can get certain more incentives and move sooner. This not only benefits us in terms of cleaner air but also benefits them in terms of economies and their revenue models,” Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said.
The government will approach companies such as Uber, Amazon, Ola, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, etc. next month. The state is one of the key markets for ride-hailing, food delivery companies, and e-commerce. Maharashtra also plans to become the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the country.
Companies like Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, and Amazon have set their electric vehicle targets for 2025 and 2030. But this plan can increase the cost of operation for the companies.
