EVgo Join Forces with GM and Pilot Company to Deploy High Power Fast Charging for EVs Across US

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

EVgo Inc., the nation’s largest public charging network for electric cars (EVs), announced recently the first major EVgo eXtend Project. In collaboration with General Motors (GM), Pilot Company, the EVgo eXtend Project will install 2,000 charging stalls at Pilot and Flying J locations throughout the country. EVgo will operate and maintain the 350 kW network of charging stalls at Pilot Company and GM locations at 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centers in more than 40 US states.

Pilot Company, EVgo, and GM share a common commitment to creating an electric charging network that improves access and accelerates the transition to electrification. Cathy Zoi (CEO at EVgo), said that the eXtend offering draws on our technical expertise and extensive experience in operating and deploying chargers for customers all across the country. “This particular EVgo eXtend deployment demonstrates the flexible pathways we offer our collaborators to reach their electrification goals. It also expands the options for EVgo driver’s charging options.”

EVgo eXtend allows EVgo to provide hardware, design and construction of charging stations, as well ongoing maintenance, networking, and software integration solutions. Customers purchase and keep ownership of the charging assets. EVgo eXtend allows EVgo to leverage its core competencies to expand its network footprint in areas where EV adoption continues to grow by working with third-party owners. This opens up new opportunities for growth and value, while also expanding EVgo’s geographical footprint. The technology solutions offered to EVgo eXtend clients are based on a decade’s experience in complex charging infrastructure solutions. This includes ongoing work at El Segundo’s EVgo Innovation Lab, and a suite of software solutions that ensure reliable uptime and a superior customer experience. Customers with EVgo accounts can also access eXtend charging stations via the EVgo App.

“GM is committed to creating an all-electric world for everyone.” Alex Keros, GM Director for Charging Infrastructure Development, stated that this collaboration with Pilot Company as well as EVgo will make that future a reality. It will significantly expand access to highway charging in the U.S. by increasing its availability. “The corridor-focused project complements our existing work together with EVgo, which includes our efforts to install more than 3,250 fast charging stations in U.S. suburbs and cities by 2025.”

John Tully (VP, Strategy and Business Development at Pilot Company), stated that Pilot Company strives for the best service and experience for more than a million customers every day. This new network of fast chargers from coast to coast will give the nation’s increasing number of EV drivers the confidence needed for long-distance travel. It will eliminate range anxiety and provide the best amenities while they wait.
