Goa notifies the Goa EV Concessional Charging Infrastructure Policy 2021 which will make setting up EV charging stations in the state easy and will accelerate the electric vehicles’ sales.

With prior approval, the EV charging station operators will be allowed to generate revenue from other sources. The revenue will be shared on a 50-50 basis with the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA). 20% of the GEDA charges will be shared with the agency that owns the land and 80% will be transferred into the Goa Decarbonisation Fund.

If GEDA receives multiple applications for a location, it will award the location to the applicant who offers maximum monthly contribution during the allotment period.

“If there is no operator coming forward for a particular location, GEDA, with the approval of the Tariff Committee, may offer a higher tariff for such locations,” policy said.

Goa is one of the fastest-growing states of India. Goa receives a huge amount of tourists and is highly dependent on tourism. High tourism means high traffic on road and hence more carbon emission. That is why this policy was needed.

Adopting electric vehicles for daily use is important for better air quality, enhanced energy security, reduced noise pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

“With vehicular pollution being a constant source of reduced air quality within the state, rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles is of great importance,” an officer said.
